Michael has assisted complex, multinational companies with a variety of unclaimed property matters, specializing in annual compliance, exemption analysis and liability reduction, state voluntary disclosures, and audit defense representation. He has exclusively practiced in unclaimed property for more than 15 years and advises customers in many industries, including insurance, financial services, healthcare, and technology.
Michael has assisted his customers in navigating numerous multi-jurisdictional unclaimed property audit settlements and advocates for more favorable outcomes for his customers. He has a history of success in challenging questionable state audit techniques and auditor methodologies and has been engaged to assist in many complex unclaimed property matters, including as an expert witness in a Supreme Court case related to unclaimed property. Michael holds a Master of Business Administration degree in management from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an unclaimed property certificate from the Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization.
He is a member of UPPO and an active participant with the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators. Outside of work, Michael loves spending time with his family, golfing—having played for the University of Missouri—and assisting the journey of sarcoma patients through a nonprofit cancer foundation he helped found in 2016.
